Medication Management
What is Medication Management?
Medication management is a very essential service in a psychiatric practice. The checks and balances in brain chemistry are a very complex process and have a huge impact on how we function. This is why medication can be so important in balancing any chemical imbalances so that our patients can live more fulfilling lives.
In our medication management process, we evaluate a patient thoroughly in order to make an accurate diagnosis which then informs the type of medication we will prescribe. Our providers then monitor the patient's reaction to these medications over time and make revisions in dosage when necessary, or even switch to a different medication if you are not seeing desired results.
Our goal is to ensure each patient seeking medication is able to find a medicine that makes the most positive impact with the least negative side effects.
In psychiatric conditions that co-occur such as anxiety and depression, we must walk a fine line between them in order to manage both as they are often related. Trying to aggressively eliminate anxiety problems might cause depression and vice versa. For example, adding too many medications for depression might cause symptoms of anxiety and/or panic attacks. A refined measure of checks and balances is required when adjusting psychiatric medications in order to get the most benefit from them.
Additionally, many medications interact with one another and they may maximize or minimize each other’s effect; either exacerbating or negating their effectiveness or contributing to unwanted side effects.
